ABOUT US
Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital is situated in Nanded city of Maharashtra. It was established in 1988. The college is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC) India. The medical college has an annual intake of 150 MBBS seats and 82 seats in 19 Departments for Post-Graduate studies.
The Central Library of the institute occupies a place of pride in Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital and it is an essential component of the institute’s quality research and education mission. The state-of-the-art Central Library has a separate building and enables learning and advancement of knowledge.
It caters to the information needs of Medical Professionals, Students and Faculty. With an area of 2500 Sq.mts, it provides separate two reading halls each having 200 capacities for under graduate, and postgraduate students.
It acquires more than 20,000 copies of books in its collection and has a rich collection of Textbooks, Reference books, Journals, Bound volumes, Theses, and other reading materials in the discipline of Medicine and allied fields. The library is equipped with modern technology and provides various library services considering standards given by the ‘National Medical Council’. For hustle free transactions, a library facilitates an automated library system using library management software called E-Granthalaya. The books and the library membership cards of the library have been barcoded for systematic transactions. Library provides Home Lending, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), E-Library, Reference Service, and Book-Bank services to the students. Library has always aimed to provide the best services to the users in terms of collection, research and facilities.

LIBRARY COLLECTION.
The library has a specialized collection in Medicine and its allied fields. The library can boast of a rich collection of Textbooks, Reference books, Journals, Theses, etc. Library does even maintain a small collection of non-academic books such as Story books, Novels, Biographies, etc. for recreational activities.

The library contains more than 20,000 print books. It contains textbooks and reference books from various disciplines of Medicine. Books from various well-known publishers such as Elsevier, Wiley, Oxford University Press, Springer, McGraw Hill, etc. are available in the library.

● Thesis
Library has a collection of print thesis submitted by the students of various departments of the Institute. The hard copies of these documents are available for reference within the library premises only.

The library has subscribed to more than 200 national and international print journals of well-known publishers such as Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, Sage, Nature, etc.Print Journals are procured as per the guidelines given by the National Medical Council and also with the recommendation given by the faculty of each department.Users can access print journals in the library with the permission of library staff.

How to Get Library Membership?
- Users can get library membership only with the permission of the librarian.
- Users can borrow books only when they get a library membership card.
- To get a library membership user have to personally visit the library with their details such as:

- Valid Email Id
- Valid Mobile No
- Current Passport size Photo
Services & Facilities:

1. Reading Space
- Library has a separate reading area for UG students and PG students.
- Reading area at the First floor of the library will be available 24X7 for the students.
- Library has an Open Access system. Students can see and handle the books available in the library stack.
- Library is under CCTV surveillance 24X7.
2. Home Lending
- Users of the library with their valid Library I-Card, can borrow library books for a specific period of time to home for their studies. And can return it to the library by following the library’s rules and regulations. Library has successfully automated the home lending services with the help of eg4 software to make the home lending process systematically and transparently.
3. Library automation
- The library has successfully performed the modernization and automation of the library function. It has implemented the e-Granthalaya 4.0 software to carry out the library activities efficiently and smoothly.
- The automated library system maintains the records of all the collections in the library including books & journals. It generates reports and keeps all the data securely in the system.
- It manages the user’s membership and helps in carrying out the systemic circulation of books.
- Library automation has helped users to track the records of the books they have borrowed from the library. Users get the email notification about their transaction, overdue and return of the book.
- Users because of the automated system can even search the library collection from anywhere with the help of an online public access catalog.
4. Online Public Access Catalogue
- DSCGMClibrary has provided the OPAC facility to the students. OPAC is the online catalogue of the library that is accessible publicly from anywhere. Users can search a particular book through OPAC to see its availability in the library.

Follow the given steps to search books through OPAC.
- In ‘ALL LIBRARIES’ Select Library name as ‘ SHANKARRAO CHAVAN GOVT. MEDICAL COLLEGE, NANDED (DSCGMCN)
- Besides the search box, ‘Select field’ as ‘ALL’.
- Enter ‘Author/Title/Subject’ into the search box and search.
- Based on your search, you can see the list of titles of the books or journals available in the library.
- Click on ‘View holding’, to see the availability of the title.
5. Book Bank
- State Government of Maharashtra in association with the ‘Social Justice and Special Assistance Department’ provides the ‘Book Bank’ facility to the scheduled caste students. In this scheme libraries provide the set of books to the SC/ST students for the particular academic year for their studies. At the end of the academic year students return all the books given to them.
- DSCGMC library has implemented a ‘Book Bank’ facility for the students for their studies. Till now many students have benefited due to the scheme.
6. Reference Service
- Library provides reference services to the users. Students can request required articles, books or any other reference materials related to their studies to the library.
Users can reach us with many mediums. They can write mail and can communicate with phones. They can even visit the library and ask for any assistance from our library staff.
