Internship is a phase of training wherein a graduate is expected to conduct actual practice of medical and health care and acquire skills under supervision so that he/she may become capable of functioning independently. Every student passed final year MBBS have to do one year compulsory rotatory internship. For the smooth conduction of internship programme, as per the directives of MUHS Nashik academic notification no.06/2012 (amended) about internship training programme and regulation of academic council, the following committees have established at this institution to look after the internship programme at this Institute.

INTERSHIP REGULATION
- 1) This Notification shall be called as “Rules Governing Procedure of Internship Transfer of Student(s) after passing Final year professional examination (UG) of Health Science courses.
- 2) The Notifications / Circulars / letters regarding Internship Transfer issued earlier stands repealed.
- 3) The application must be completed in all respect as well as accompanying documents stated in the application form. A student seeking Internship Transfer under any of the types as prescribed herein may apply in the "Prescribed Proforma" to the Registrar, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik for his / her Internship Transfer within FIFTEEN DAYS from the date of declaration of the results of the Final Professional Examination of the concerned course(s) in Health Sciences of the University. The application received after due date will be submitted for Consideration/Approval of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The decision of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor in this regard shall be final and binding on all concerned.
- 4) The Notification seeking applications for Internship Transfer of students shall be issued by the Registrar of the University on the date of declaration of the MUHS result of Final Professional examination of various courses.
- 5) The Applicant student shall obtain "No Objection Certificate" first from "Relieving / Parent" College and then from "Receiving/ Admitting" College and No Objection Certificate from concerned University (in case of Out of State /Other University in the State / Outside Country candidate)
- 6) The No Objection Certificate from the “Parent / Relieving” College under the signature of its Dean / Principal, as the case may be, with the seal of the college shall be as per Annexure “A”.
- 7) No Objection Certificate from the “Admitting / Receiving” college under the signature of its Dean / Principal, as the case may be with seal of the College, shall be as per Annexure “B”
- 8) The candidate seeking transfer on medical ground causing disability shall produce a Medical certificate from Civil Surgeon / Medical Superintendents of Government Hospitals or Professor / Asso. Professor of concerned specialty of Medical College. If the certificate issued by private medical practitioner, then it shall be counter signed by the Civil Surgeon.
- 9) The validity of NOCs submitted by the applicant will remain valid for that batch only and up to 03 months from the date of its issuance.
- 10) Dean / Principal of relieving and receiving college shall have power to issue the No Objection Certificate to the student(s), in the prescribed format (Annexure A & B) who is applying for No Objection Certificate from them. It will be the discretion of Dean of Receiving / Releaving College to the number of NOC’s to be given. However the number of NOC’s should not exceed the prescribed quota as mentioned in below table for the particular type.
- 11) Availability of vacancies for Internship Transfer for Receiving / Relieving is as follows: “Internship Transfer is a facility made available to the students which is to be availed within the prescribed rules. However It cannot be claimed as a matter of right by the student.”

- 12) For Transfer from MUHS affiliated college to college in abroad, No Objection Certificate will be issued to Medical Council of India in the power of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
- 13) All the applications in the prescribed format (Notified by the University from time to time) seeking Internship Transfer shall be accompanied by the processing fees, as may be prescribed by the University from time to time.
- 14) There shall be Internship Transfer Committee for consideration and recommendation of the Internship Transfers on the applications received for type I categories.
- 15) For type I, if more applications for the transfer to a particular college are received than the available vacancies, then the allotment of seats shall be done on Merit basis as per following criteria:
- i) The candidate with higher total of marks in the final professional examination shall be given preference (1 % of marks obtained shall be deducted from the total for each attempt if the candidate has passed in more than one attempt).
- ii) if the tie persists, the candidate with higher total marks at all University examination will be preferred (1 % of marks obtained shall be deducted from the total for each attempt if the candidate has passed in more than one attempt).
- iii) If the tie still persists, the candidate with higher age will be preferred.
For type I, Upon the approval by the Vice-Chancellor to the recommendation of the said committee, the decision shall be communicated to all concerned within Two Months from the date of Result of final year examinations.
- 16) For type II and type III, application in the prescribed format ( Notified by the University from time to time) will be processed by the University and the decision of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor will be final & binding on all concerned and shall be communicated within 21 days of receipt of application.
- 17) The application for transfer to the college located in the Same City will not be entertained.
- 18) After granting transfer for internship, application for second time transfer to another college will not be entertained.
- 19) Once internship transfer is NOT recommended and if the students reapplies then 20% administrative charges of prescribed fee will be deducted as a processing fee.
- 20) The Transferee student shall join the College to which he/she has been granted transfer within SEVEN DAYS from the date of receipt of the letter from the University. If the student has already started his / her Internship Programme at the parent college, in such case, he/she shall complete the current posting & then join the receiving college immediately. If such student do not wish to complete the current posting at Parent College, then such student has to complete such posting a fresh at receiving college. No part posting will be considered while calculating the whole Internship Programme at the time of issuing Internship Completion Certificate (ICC) by the University.
- 21) Once the University has granted Internship Transfer to the student and afterwards due to any reason, if such student is not willing to join the transferee college then under no circumstances, such cases shall be entertained for retransfer to other college and such student has to complete his/ her internship at his/her parent college only.
- 22) The "Admitting College" shall submit a report of joining of the students who have granted Internship Transfer to the Registrar, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik within FIFTEEN DAYS from the date of receipt of the letter from the University.
- 23) For the Students passing after revaluation / re-verification / declaring withheld results/Applying in between shall be considered by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor for Internship Transfer only if, the vacancy persist in the colleges (Relieving and Receiving) for that batch. The decision of Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor in these cases shall be final.
- 24) The parent college shall make final evaluation of the internees and shall send the proposal for issuance of Internship Completion Certificate after successful completion of Internship Programme to the University for type I & II category transfer only. For type III, the Internship Completion Certificate will be issued by the concerned Receiving/Admitting College to the students after successful completion of his/her Internship.
- 25) In case of any difficulty in giving effect to the provisions of this Notification or in interpretation of the provisions of the Notification, the matter shall be referred to Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and his decision shall be final and binding.
- 26) This Notification shall come into force from the date of its issuance and shall remain in force till further orders.

INTERNSHIP
1. GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
Internship is a phase of training wherein a graduate is expected to conduct actual practice of medical and health care and acquire skills under supervision so that he/she may become capable of functioning independently.
2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the Internship Training, the student shall be able to:
- (i) Diagnose and manage clinically common disease conditions encountered in Clinical practice and make timely decision for referral to higher level.
- (ii) Use discretely essential drugs, infusions blood or its substitutes and laboratory services.
- (iii) Manage all type of emergencies – Medical, Surgical Obstetric, Neonatal and Paediatric.
- (iv) Monitoring the National Health Programmes and Schemes, oriented to provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services to the community.
- (v) Develop leadership qualities to function effectively as a leader of the health team organized to deliver the health and family welfare services in existing socio-economic, political and cultural environment.
- (vi) Render services to chronically sick and disabled (both physical and mental) and to communicate effectively with patient and the community.
- (vii) Acquire adequate communication skills for proper interactions with:
- (a) Patients and Attendants
- (b) Seniors
- (c) Peer Group
- (a) Other paramedical workers
- (viii) Acquire ability, to judiciously select appropriate investigation as per clinical situation, properly collect samples for analysis and, to interpret common clinical and laboratory data.
- (ix) To fill appropriate hospital forms and certificates.
- (x) To carry out day to day ward procedures and treatment.
3. INTERNSHIP – TIME DISTRIBUTION:
As per Medical Council of India, vide notification No. MCI-7(1)/2008-Med.Miswc/3309 dated 22 November, 2008, gazette Notification No. MCI-34(41)2008–Med./29527 dated 20.10.2008.

4. OTHER DETAILS;
- a. Every student will be required after passing the final MBBS examination to undergo Compulsory Rotational Internship to the satisfaction of the College Authorities and MUHS Nashik for a period of 12 months so as to be eligible for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and full registration.
- b. All parts of the Internship shall be done in the institution from where the student has been enrolled for his MBBS studies.
- c. No Intern will be permitted to do externship in other hospitals within the Nanded district.
- d. In case a student desires to do internship from other institutions within India, in any institution/hospital recognized by MCI for the purpose, permission must be taken from the Institute as well as MUHS Nashik at the beginning of the internship programme. However, permission may be granted by the University at any time considering the exigencies and merit on case to case basis.
- e. The University shall issue a provisional MBBS pass certificate on passing the final examination
5. DUTIES:
- (i) The Intern shall participate as a team member in total health care programme of an individual including appropriate follow-up and social rehabilitation. The Intern will work as a Doctor undergoing training and is expected to work for the well being of the patients under his case.
- (ii) The Intern shall be entrusted with clinical responsibilities under supervision of a Medical Office/Team. He/she shall not work independently.
- (iii) Ordinarily, an intern is not required to transport samples or collect reports of the patients. In the event of emergency situation, he may be required to do so.
- (iv) Interns will not issue a Medical Certificate or a Death Certificate or a medico legal document under his/her signature.
- (v) Intern will participate in total patient care by maintaining patients records, participating in ward rounds and other academic activities of the department posted.
- (vi) Notwithstanding any of the above, the Intern will be required to carry out any work assigned by the Unit In charge during exigencies.
- (vii) The Intern shall not work consecutively for a period 24 hours.
6. ASSESSMENT
- (i) Interns shall maintain a Record Book which shall be verified and certified by the Unit In charge under whom he works, during his internship period.
- (ii) Responsibility of safe custody of the Record Book rests on the Intern.
- (iii) The Record Book provides proforma in various specialties which indicates skills to be acquired during the specific posting.
- (iv) The last page provided for the leave record. All leave taken must be entered and signed under seal by Head of the Departments/Units.
- (v) An objective evaluation of his knowledge, skill and attitude during the training will be recorded by the Unit In charge/Centre In charge and a score of 0 to 10 would be used for scoring. A satisfactory completion shall be a score of 5 or above.
- a) Proficiency of knowledge required for each case Score 0-10
- b) The level of competence attained to manage cases in relation to:
- i) Management of cases independently
- ii) Assistance in procedures
- iii) Observation of Procedures Score 0-10
- c) Responsibility, punctuality, work up of case, involvement in treatment, follow-up reports. Score 0-10
- d) Capacity to work in a team (Behavior with colleagues, nursing staff and relationship with paramedical) Score 0-10
- e) Initiative participation in discussion, research aptitude Score 0-10
- Poor / Fair / Average / Good / Excellent

A score of less than 5 in any of the above items will represent unsatisfactory completion of Internship.
- vi) On completion of a period of posting in any department the report must be signed by the Unit In charge along with his stamp and should be submitted through the Head of the Department to the academic cell.
- vii) Based on the record of work and evaluation, the Dean/Principal shall issue certificate of satisfactory completion of training, following which the University shall award the MBBS Degree or declare him eligible for it.
- viii) Internship should be completed within the stipulated period of 1 year after passing the final year examination.
7. NO DUES:

To avoid any unnecessary delay in clearance, a signed ‘No Dues’ Certificate should be taken by the Intern at the end of each posting from the concerned department.
8. REPEATING INTERNSHIP:
An Intern must ordinarily complete his/her Internship during the scheduled period of Regular Batch. If any intern remains absent in any department, then repeat posting will be given for the absent days only after the completion of scheduled internship order.
Stipulation for repeat posting:
- i) Unsatisfactory performance.
- ii) Prolonged illness, Medical Certificate must be validated by a Medical Board set up by the Institution, where rotatory internship is being undertaken.
- iii) To prevent Interns from prolonging the internship period due to extraneous reasons other than the above (i) and (ii) and taking extra leave beyond permitted leave, the repeat posting will be done after 1st April depending upon the availability of seat(s) in the Department of the Institution.
- iv) No Hostel accommodation shall be provided for the repeat period. However, in extra ordinary circumstances the institute may provide accommodation only if it is available.
9. EXTERNSHIP
Ordinarily rotatory internship must be undertaken in the institution where the student has enrolled. However, a student can do internship in MCI approved institution/hospital for which the following guidelines may be followed:
Externship in India:
- i) A student must apply for permission to do internship outside institution on the annexure proforma along with the desired documents. Before considering the student’s application to do internship in another hospital / medical college he/she will be required to produce the following documents:
- a. Permission from the institutions where the student wishes to do internship
- b. Certificate from MCI that the hospital/institution is recognized for undergoing internship training
- c. Permission from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik
- ii) All students intending to do internship outside must submit duly completed application to the concerned authorities at the beginning of the internship programme.
- iii) This institution will constitute a committee to do scrutiny and recommend for transfer the internship to other institutes.
- iv) Rotatory Internship in Community Medicine must be completed within the institution enrollment in case of transfer to other state.
- v) A certificate of satisfactory completion of training should be submitted to the Institution duly signed and stamped by the administrative authorities of the Dean/Hospital Centre, where the student has undergone externship.
- vi) Externship in multiple institutes will not be permitted.
- vii) Externship in India once done in a particular institution/hospital recognized by MCI is not repeated in parent institution. Only the records of satisfactory completion of training, duly certified Medical Office along with assessment report/evaluation report, meeting the objectives of training are submitted, so that once externship is done outside the institution, will not be repeated there.
- viii) No student will get pay/stipend or honorarium once he/she is relieved from this institution to do internship to other Institution /hospital.
- 10. Guidelines for outside candidates wishing to do Internship in Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College, Nanded The prime responsibility and commitment of the institution is to train its own Under-graduates during their rotatory internship period. However, it has been seen that students from outside apply for rotatory internship training to the Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College, Nanded
- (a) Application of the students for NOC to do internship and documentary proof of passing MBBS along with NOC of parent institute.
- (b) No Objection Certificate from his/her parent institution clearly stating that institution is recognized by MCI and that during the course of his/her training from admission to his/her passing out, the college was not derecognized by MCI at any time.
- (c) Permission of the University to which the above college is affiliated.
- (ii) Certificate from MCI that Medical College/Institution where the student is at present studying has been recognized by the MCI from the year the student was admitted in that institution to the year of his/her passing out.
- (iii) Certificate of provision registration by MCI.
- (iv) Certificate of good character and conduct of the student from the parent college/institution.
- (v) Permission letter from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
- (vi) An undertaking that the student is prepared to do internship without any pay, stipend or honorarium if he/ she is from any Private Medical College. He/she would maintain good conduct, discipline and decorum of the institution and the authorities of the institution have the right to expel him/her on misconduct, indiscipline and unsatisfactory work.
- vii) The intern from private Medical Institution interested to do internship have to pay government fees to do internship at the institution
- viii) If any student passed MBBS from abroad/ foreign country and wishes to do internship at this institution have to follow all the norms/ rules laid down by MCI, Maharashtra Medical Council Mumbai and MUHS Nashik.
