Academic Programmes

1. UNDERGRADUATE (UG) TEACHING
  • Curriculum & Lectures: Regular theory classes and interactive lectures are conducted for MBBS undergraduate students in strict alignment with the NMC curriculum.
  • Clinical Instruction: Bedside demonstrations, clinical case discussions, tutorials, and practical hands-on sessions are utilized to teach core concepts.
  • Core Competencies: Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, pre-anaesthetic evaluation, and comprehensive perioperative care.
  • Skill Acquisition: Practical training emphasizes basic airway management, vital parameter monitoring, resuscitation techniques, and the handling of common perioperative emergencies.
  • Safety & Ethics: Special emphasis is placed on patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, doctor-patient communication skills, and medical ethics.
  • OT Exposure: Students gain supervised exposure to operation theatre workflows, sterile protocols, and basic anaesthesia equipment.
2. POSTGRADUATE (PG) TEACHING
  • Competency-Based Curriculum: Structured teaching schedule adhering to NMC guidelines, including lectures, seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, tutorials, and clinical discussions.
  • Subspeciality Supervised Training: Residents receive hands-on experience in general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, as well as subspecialties including obstetric, paediatric, trauma, and high-risk anaesthesia.
  • Perioperative & Critical Care: Comprehensive instruction covering pre-operative evaluation, intra-operative monitoring, post-operative recovery, and the care of critically ill surgical patients.
  • Advanced Interventions: Training in neuraxial blocks (spinal/epidural), peripheral nerve blocks, and modern ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia (USG-RA) techniques.
  • Airway & Crisis Management: Focused training on difficult airway management, emergency airway interventions, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and perioperative crisis management.
  • Simulation & Audit: Integration of simulation-based learning and skill stations to refine clinical judgment; regular morbidity and mortality meetings are conducted to enhance clinical safety and audit standards.
  • Scholarly Activities: Postgraduates are guided and encouraged to publish original research, present papers/posters at state, national, and international conferences, and participate in CMEs and workshops.
3. NELS (NATIONAL EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT) TRAINING PROGRAMME
  • Skill Development Drive: Conducted as a signature institutional initiative to advance emergency and critical care skill sets across medical disciplines.
  • Training of Trainers (TOT): Advanced TOT sessions were organized to build a certified pool of master faculty capable of delivering standardized life-support modules.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Outreach: NELS courses were delivered across all cadres, including teaching faculty, postgraduate residents, nursing personnel, and allied healthcare staff.
  • Simulation Methodology: Utilized hands-on stations and mannequin-based simulations covering emergency response, advanced airway management, resuscitation, and critical trauma management.
4. CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) & SKILL DEVELOPMENT
  • Workshops & CMEs: Periodically organizes CMEs, hands-on workshops, state/regional seminars, and interdepartmental academic meets.
  • Certified Life Support: Conducts regular certified training programs in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and advanced airway management.
  • Professional Growth: Fosters an environment of evidence-based practice, continuous skill upgrading, and academic collaboration across specialities.
5. RESEARCH & ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT
  • Faculty & Resident Research: Active encouragement and institutional support for conducting original clinical research and clinical trials.
  • Dissertation & Publication Mentorship: Structured guidance for PG residents during thesis selection, scientific writing, literature search, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations.
  • Interdisciplinary Research: Promotes collaborative research with clinical and pre-clinical departments to adopt modern, evidence-based practices in clinical anaesthesiology.
6. BACHELOR OF PARAMEDICAL TECHNOLOGY (BPMT) TEACHING & TRAINING

The Department of Anaesthesiology actively contributes to the academic instruction and clinical skill development of BPMT (Operation Theatre) students. The curriculum focuses on building sound theoretical knowledge, technical expertise in theatre assistance, handling of modern anaesthesia workstations, sterile maintenance, medical equipment care, and adherence to standard patient-safety practices.
