The Department of Orthopedics at Dr. SCGMC was established in the year 1991 with a vision to create knowledge, advanced learning, and improve musculoskeletal health at the community, provincial, and national levels. The department is headed by Dr. Rajesh K. Ambulgekar with a spirited and committed team of senior and associate consultants providing expert surgical care.

Nanded is the nearest and an easily accessible Tertiary Health Care Centre from villages of the neighboring states of Telangana and Karnataka due to its close proximity to these regions. Being close to three major highways (Tuljapur, Nizamabad, and Aurangabad Highways), this hospital receives a high patient load of trauma and fractures, which are comprehensively managed here.

In the year 1991, the department received registration for 1 M.S. Orthopedic seat. In 2017, the intake was increased to 6 seats, all of which were recognized in 2018. Currently, the Orthopedic Department of Dr. SCGMC, Nanded comprises 3 units with 6 recognized M.S. Orthopedic seats.

In our indoor wards, there is a plethora of cases ranging from different types of trauma (polytrauma), bony tumours, congenital/cerebral palsy deformed extremities, tuberculosis of the hip/knee/elbow, spinal fractures, and other complex spine diseases.

OPD Operations: Approximately more than 55,000 patients are examined and treated on an OPD basis every year.

Surgical Procedures: Approximately 2,000–2,200 major orthopedic operations and 7,200–8,400 minor surgeries and day care procedures are carried out by the department annually.
